서울 혜화경찰서는 항공택배 속 건조 바나나 과자에 숨겨 필로폰을 밀반입한 혐의(마약류 관리에 관한 법률 위반)로 김모(42)씨를 구속했다고 26일 밝혔다.

경찰에 따르면 김씨는 지난 21일 400명에게투약해도 충분할 분량인 필로폰 10ｇ을 필리핀 과자로 위장해 항공택배로 국내에 들여온 혐의를 받고 있다.

김씨는 필리핀의 지인에게 경기도 부천으로 필로폰 택배를 보내게 한 뒤 후배 심모(34)씨를 시켜 이를 경기도 고양시 소재 오피스텔로 옮기게 하는 방법으로 수사망을 피한 것으로 조사됐다.

마카오에서 카지노업에 종사했던 김씨는 작년 11월부터 중국 술집과 한국 오피스텔 등에서 필로폰을 수차례 투약했는가 하면 지난 11일에는 자신의 오피스텔에서 필로폰을 태워 연기를 흡입한 혐의도 받고 있다.

경찰은 “김씨가 국내로 반입되는 택배물에 대하여 개별적으로 정밀 수색이 어렵다는 점을 악용했다”며 “택배회사를 통해 필리핀의 공급책을 추적하고 있다”고 밝혔다. (코리아헤럴드)

Man charged with drug smuggling as airfreight

A 42-year-old South Korean man was arrested Wednesday on charges of smuggling methamphetamine disguised as snacks from the Philippines as airfreight.

The officers at Hyehwa Police Department chased down a delivery on a tip-off about the drugs hidden under bags of dried banana chips.

Ten grams of methamphetamine were discovered in the package that the suspect had ordered on June 21 to be delivered to his home in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. 

The suspect, surnamed Kim, is also under investigation for allegedly smoking meth at his apartment on June 11. 

“It was hard to get methamphetamine in the country, so I smuggled it from the Philippines as international airfreight as it was less likely to be detected,” Kim was quoted as saying.

The police said they will investigate further into Kim’s case as his smuggling may be related to a drug trafficking ring in the country.
