South Korean rapper Psy’s new hit “Gentleman” jumped 34 notches to No. 17 in the formal British music chart Sunday, apparently thanks to his recent promotional activities in the country.
Released in April, “Gentleman” made it all the way to the No. 10 spot on the chart a week after entering the Official Singles Chart Top 100 at 61st, but its ranking went on a rapid decent until the recent rebound. The song has stayed in the Top 100 chart for its 10th straight week, proving that Psy is no “one-hit wonder.”
The chart is released by Britain’s Official Charts Company that compiles various “official” British record charts.

Psy’s recent promotional tour of the country appears to have influenced the rebound.
The rapper performed as a special guest in the final round of “Britain’s Got Talent Season 7,” the country’s most popular TV audition program, on June 8. The following day, he performed along with global pop stars such as Robbie Williams and Justin Timberlake for the “Summertime Ball 2013” show hosted by British radio Capital FM at London’s Wembley Stadium.
The video for “Gentleman” has drawn more than 400 million views on YouTube, breaking the milestone 55 days after its release on April 13.
The singer’s previous hit “Gangnam Style” has attracted more than 1.6 billion YouTube views, but it took about 85 days to reach the 400 million mark on Oct. 8 last year.
The Korean pop star is currently in Toronto, Canada, on a promotional tour.
He won International Viral Video of the Year for “Gangnam Style” at the “MuchMusic Video Awards 2013” held right outside the headquarters of the Canadian music channel, MuchMusic, in Toronto, on Sunday night.
Psy cohosted the awards show performing “Gangnam Style” and “Gentleman” respectively at the opening and ending stages of the show. (Yonhap News)
