South Korean rhythmic gymnast Son Yeon-jae on Saturday won two gold medals in women's hoop and clubs at the Asian Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, grabbing a total of three gold medals in the four-day event.

Son finished first with 18.433 points in the women's hoop final, outperforming Deng Senyue of China who finished with 18.067, according to Asian Gymnastics Union.

The 19-year-old clinched another gold in the women's clubs with 18.400 points, and scored a silver medal in the women's ribbon with

18.167 after Deng took the gold with 18.533. She finished fourth in the women's ball with 16.933 points, the union said.

On Friday, Son won the individual all-around final with 72.066 points in the multi-sport competition composed of hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon.

The rising gymnastics star is the first South Korean to win gold at any international event for rhythmic gymnastics.

Son won a bronze medal at the Guangzhou Asian Games in 2010.

Two other South Koreans garnered bronze at the Asian Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in 2006 and 2009.

Son finished fourth at the all-around final at the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) World Cup held in Sofia, Bulgaria in May. She tied for bronze in the hoop performance there.

She also won a silver medal at the ribbon event of the FIG World Cup in Pesaro, Italy in April. (Yonhap News)
