Olympic swimming champion Park Tae-hwan, 24, was appointed a goodwill ambassador of the Korean Navy on Friday.
His appointment coincided with the Day of the Sea.

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Choi Yoon-hee presented a letter of appointment to Park and assigned him the rank of honorary lieutenant. Park wore a naval uniform for the ceremony.
He visited the displayed wreckage of corvette Cheonan, which investigators concluded had been torpedoed by a North Korean submarine, and paid silent tribute to its fallen sailors.
The publicity envoy will model for naval enlistment advertisements and also attend promotional events, including Navy Star Day.
Park is a 400-meter freestyle gold medalist in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He won silver medals in the 200-meter and 400-meter freestyle events in the 2012 London Olympics.
He is training in Korea first to qualify for the 2014 Incheon Asian Games. He will go to Australia in early July for further training.
