Seoul City won four United Nations Public Service Awards, which are given to public officers or organizations in recognition of their excellence in public services.

The city government said Wednesday that the U.N. Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the organizer of the annual award competition, notified the city of the achievements in three sectors: Preventing and combating corruption in the public service, fostering participation in public policy decision making through innovative mechanisms, and promoting gender-responsive delivery of public services.

The city said it was recognized for its online open-data system for preventing corruption in the construction sector, an energy checking and saving program called “Eco Mileage,” and customized welfare policies that reflect regional and personal needs and support policies for female citizens who live alone.

The award ceremony is scheduled to be held on June 27 in Manama, the capital of Bahrain.
