High 1 Country Club, a public golf course in Korea, started its 2013 season on April 4, and the season will last until Nov. 7, according to the company.

Run by High 1 Resort, the club is located between Gohan and Sabuk in Jeogseon County, Gwangwon Province, and surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery throughout the year.

The mountains are part of the “Baekdu-daegan,” chain that forms the backbone of the Korean Peninsula.

The 6,517-meter course is 1,137 meters above sea level and is a par 72 over 18 holes.

Environmentally-friendly course

High 1 C.C. opened in 2005 as part of government’s efforts to revive a declining coal mining area with tourism. High 1 Resort has invested more than other courses in advancing environmental conditions of the region nearing High 1 C.C.

It decontaminated the land polluted by coal mining by planting trees and built a facility to prevent seepage of wastewaters into the golf course. To keep water hazards clean in a natural way, the country club operator uses freshwater snails rather than chemical treatment.

Credited by these efforts, High 1 C.C. has been recognized as one of top 10 public golf courses in Korea for the last five consecutive years.

Beautiful location

The location of High 1 C.C. means that the temperature does not exceed 25 centigrade even in mid-summer.

The magnificent scenic views and the course layout create an exquisite mix. Golfers can enjoy playing a round of golf while overlooking vast highlands. The early morning tranquility, combines with the clean air and the natural beauty of the ridgeline forest in the Taebaek Mountains to stunning effect.

Mountain-style courses have less air resistance and allow longer drives, which can also increase golfers’ pleasure.

The entire course is well balanced in terms of difficulty. Every tee off area is designed to allow fairway and greenway shots.

For accommodation, the resort has the four-star High1 Hotel, with 197 guestrooms. The hotel offers various facilities.

It offers a variety of golf tour products using entertaining facilities within the High 1 Resort, including a 2013 golf package.

High 1 C.C. will host a 1 billion won ($880,000) golf tournament with partnership with One Asia in a bid to increase its reputation overseas in the latter part of this year.
