The Korea Herald, the largest English-language daily in South Korea, will hold a special conference on President Park Geun-hye’s key policies at Millennium Seoul Hilton hotel in Seoul on Thursday.

The forum, titled “Hear from the New Korean Government: Policies and Reforms over the Next Five Years,” offers a rare chance for senior officials of the new government to brief the global business community policy reform and key issues that will affect not only Korean businesses but also foreign companies operating here.

Choi Sang-mok, director of economic policy bureau at the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, will kick off the event in the opening session titled “Economic Management and Outlook,” offering an overview of the broad macroeconomic operation plan.

Park is keen to create what she calls a “creative” economy and Choi is expected to shed new light on her broader policies in connection with the country’s economic trends and outlook.

In the following session, Minister of Employment and Labor Phang Ha-nam is set to touch upon the labor management policies of the new government. Minister Phang will also outline Park’s policies on labor market stability.

In other sessions, Tchoe Byong-ho, president of Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs, will introduce ways in which foreign companies can help in the new government’s push for welfare expansion, and Kim Jae-jin, senior fellow of Korea Institute of Public Finance, will explain forthcoming tax reforms relating to corporate competitiveness.

In addition, Ko Seung-bum, director of financial policy bureau at the Financial Services Commission, will provide a closer look into President Park’s financial sector reform plans.

The forum is made up of five sessions that are followed by a moderated Q&A with participating businesspeople, and a panel discussion on the foreign business community’s suggestions to the new government.
