젊은 미국 여성 인구의 절반 정도가 교제하는 남성과의 결혼에 앞서 동거를 먼저하는 것으로 나타났다.

미국 연방 질병관리본부의 설문조사에 따르면 1995년 응답자의 34%가 남성과 먼저 같이 살아본다고 답했으며, 39%는 결혼을 먼저했다고 말했다.

같은 질문을 2006년부터 2010년 사이 물었을 때 응답자의 반에 가까운 48%가 결혼 전 동거를 한다고 답해 14%의 증가율을 보였다.

전문가들은 결혼생활을 실험해보는 단계로 동거를 선택하는 이의 수가 늘어나는 것을 증가 요인으로 꼽았다.

또한 동거를 한 여성의 약 40%는 함께 살았던 남성과 3년 안에 결혼을 하는 것으로 나타났다.

이 설문조사는 2006년부터 2010년까지 45세 이하의 12,000명의 미국 여성을 대상으로 이뤄졌다.

That’s the finding of a government survey released Thursday.

The results are a marked changed from 1995, when only 34 percent said they moved in together. Now it‘s 48 percent. Back then, 39 percent said they married first, compared to 23 now.

Experts say the numbers show living together is increasingly used as a testing ground for marriage. About 40 percent of the women who lived with a guy went on to marry him within 3 years.

The survey by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention questioned more than 12,000 women younger than 45 from 2006 to 2010. (AP)
