LS Cable & System, a leading Korean wire and cable maker, said Wednesday it has developed what it claims is the world’s thinnest communications cable as part of its drive to target overseas markets.

The cable, which measures 7 millimeter in outer diameter, is the world’s thinnest, compared with existing products that measure 7.2 to 8 millimeters in diameter, LS Cable & System said in a press release.

The cable maker said the thinner diameter is easy to install and saves installation space, which can help reduce construction costs.

“In general, network cabling systems need to be operated for 20 to 25 years. So, customers can cut down on their investment costs by using the 10 Gbps level LAN cable,” said LS Cable & System senior vice president Kim Hyeong-won.

With the new product launch, LS Cable said it plans to ramp up efforts to bolster its footing in overseas markets as well as major data centers and related facilities in South Korea. (Yonhap News)
