American media is shedding new light on a fanatic baseball fan who inspired the movie “The Natural” starring Robert Redford.

Ruth Ann Steinhagen played by actress Barbara Hershey had made countless headlines in America for nearly killing a player and was recently reported to have died three months ago.

In 1949, the 19-year-old girl was so obsessive about Eddie Waitkus, a first baseman for the Chicago Cubs that she chose to check in to the same hotel as him. She left a note about “something of importance” in order to lure him to her hotel room.

When Waitkus entered her room, the girl picked up a rifle and shot him in the chest. Waitkus managed to survive and Steinhagen was committed to a mental hospital.

After three years of mental treatment, she vanished into obscurity, keeping her privacy completely intact. Even her neighbors did not know who she was until her recent death.

3년 후 풀려난 그녀는 세상의 눈을 피해 굉장히 조용한 삶을 영위하였으며, 이웃조차도 그녀의 실체를 알지 못했다.
