Korean pop artist Nancy Lang’s composite photograph of Shin Saimdang, a famous female artist of the Joseon era, on a Korean banknote is going viral.

The performance artist uploaded a photo of a 50,000-won bill, on which she changed Shin’s clothes into Lang’s body in a bikini. The original picture on the bill has Shin wearing hanbok, the traditional Korean costume.

Some media speculated that she might be attempting to criticize the government’s moves to regulate people’s dress.

In a recent Cabinet meeting, the government agreed to an amendment to the Minor Offense Act to levy a fine of 50,000 won for public indecency. Critics claimed the move could result in women being punished for wearing revealing clothing.
