The president of Harvard University has been chosen as an honorary fellow of South Korea’s Ewha Womans University for her contribution to the improvement of women’s rights, school officials said.
Drew Gilpin Faust, the 28th president of Harvard University and the Lincoln Professor of History in Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences, will be awarded with the “Distinguished Honorary Ewha Fellow” award, as she “has greatly contributed to the improvement of women’s social status as the first female dean of the school and renowned historian,” said an Ewha official.
The award ceremony is to take place on March 22 at the school campus during her visit to South Korea, according to the school, adding that the president will give a special lecture to students to stress the importance of teaching women.
The country’s top women’s university designates those who work for women’s rights and interests among non-alumna as the honorary fellow.
Faust became the second person who received the award following former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2009, the school said. (Yonhap News)
