British actor Simon Morris was jailed for raping a 15-year-old girl in 2011, despite insisting that he had no recollection of the incident because he was fast asleep, British media reported Monday.

The 42-year-old actor was sentenced on Sunday to eight years in prison by Cardiff Crown Court in southern London, after the court dismissed his claims that he had suffered from “sexsomnia,” the medical condition where people engage in sex acts while still asleep.

“You told an endless number of glib lies which you hoped would win over the jury. But they saw through your lies and saw through you,” Judge Daniel Williams was quoted as saying. Judge Williams said Morris boasted about his career while trying to seduce the victim, which is contrary to his claims that he was unconscious

The actor is accused of raping the teenage victim after getting her drunk at a house party in September 2011.

Psychologist Chris Dzikowski of Edinburgh Sleep Center, who examined the actor to verify his claims, told the court that he found features consistent with sleepwalking in the actor’s behavior.

“It is a possibility that in this case he was suffering from sexsomnia -- I cannot exclude it,” he said.

Morris is a bit-part actor who has appeared in various shows including TV series “Hollyoaks,” in 2011 and 2000 movie “Shiner,” which starred Michael Caine.

윌리엄스 판사는 “피고인은 배심원단의 마음을 사기 위해 번지르르한 거짓말을 늘어놓지만, 배심원들은 결국 피고인의 거짓말을 꿰뚫어보았다”라며 구형 이유를 밝혔다.

모리스는 지난 2011년 9월, 한 파티에서 만난 소녀를 술에 취한 상태에서 성폭행한 혐의를 받고 있다. 그는 당시 자신이 깊은 잠에 빠져 있었다며 사건을 전혀 기억하지 못한다고 주장했다.

에딘버러 수면 센터 (Edinburgh Sleep Center)의 심리학자 크리스 지코우스키는 모리스를 검사한 결과 몽유병 환자에게서 흔히 나타나는 특징들이 몇 가지 발견되었다고 밝혔다. “그가 섹솜니아에 실제로 시달렸을 가능성도 있긴 합니다. 이런 가능성을 배제한 건 아니에요”라고 그는 말했다.

모리스는 다양한 작품에 출연한 단역배우로서 마이클 케인 주연의 영화 “샤이너(2000)” 그리고 영국의 인기 드라마 “홀리오크스 (Hollyoaks)” 등에 출연한 바 있다.
