MBC ‘무한도전’ 팀과 한국 홍보 전문가 서경덕 성신여대 교수가 뭉쳐 태국 최대 휴양지인 파타야시 메인 전광판에 비빔밥 관련 영상광고를 올렸다.

서교수가 뉴욕타임스, 타임스퀘어 비빔밥 영상광고를 상영하긴 했지만 태국에서 내보내는 것은 이번이 처음이다.

비빔밥 광고는 연간 1천500만 명의 관광객이 방문하는 태국의 워킹스트리트 입구 메인 전광판에 하루 100회씩 6개월간 상영할 예정이다. 광고는 농악, 장고춤, 부채춤, 강강술래, 태권도 등을 활용해 비빔밥의 맛과 멋을 형상화했다.

‘무한도전’의 김태호 PD는 “일본의 스시, 인도의 카레처럼 각 나라를 대표하는 음식이 있듯 세계인이 한국 하면 ‘비빔밥’을 떠올릴 수 있도록 지속적으로 홍보해 나갈 예정”이라고 설명했다.

두 팀은 중국의 왕푸징거리와 런던의 피카딜리 서커스를 포함한 아시아와 유럽의 주요 도시들을 방문하며 비빔밥 광고를 상영할 예정이다. (코리아헤럴드)

Professor and comedians promote bibimbap in Thailand

A bibimbap video advertisement was screened on Thailand’s most high profile billboard, after a joint effort by a Korean comedy show and publicist.

Korea’s weekly comedy show “Infinite Challenge” and Seo Kyung-duk, a professor at Sungshin Women’s University, teamed up for a world tour to put out billboard ads of bibimbap, a Korean traditional dish made of steamed rice mixed with meat, fresh vegetables and red pepper paste.

Seo has placed bibimbap ads in Times Square in New York and the New York Times before, and it’s his first attempt in Thailand.

The billboard ad in Thailand will be exposed 100 times for six months at the entrance of the Walking Street, where some 15 million travelers visit every year. The ad incorporated Korean traditional dance and the martial art taekwondo to describe the taste and image of bibimbap.

“As every country has its representative dish, for example, Japan’s sushi and India’s curry, we plan to continue the promotion so that people think of bibimbap when they think of Korea,” said Kim Tae-ho, production director of “Infinite Challenge.”

The team plans to visit major hotspots in Asia and Europe including Wangfujing Street in Beijing followed by Piccadilly Circus in London.
