한국의 혼인 건 수는 느는 데 반해 출산율은 너무나 저조한 것으로 드러났다. 이는 생활비 및 자녀교육비에 대한 부담 때문인 것으로 분석된다.

2009년 통계에 따르면 한국은 혼인율이 1,000명 당 7.13명으로 OECD 국가 중 세 번째다. 터키 9.04, 미국 7.31에 이은 수치다.

그러나 한국은 출산율에서 2010년 1.23명을 기록해 OECD 국가 중 가장 낮다.

출산율의 감소 또한 멕시코 다음으로 가장 빠르게 이루어졌다. 1970년 한국은 출산율이 4.53명이었다.

물가 상승의 압박과 함께 저조한 출산율은 결혼 평균 나이가 30대로 늦추어지는 결과를 낳고 있다. (코리아헤럴드)

More and more Koreans are getting married, but they still seem reluctant to give birth to their first child due to rising living and education expenses.

Korea ranks third with a marriage rate of 7.13 per 1,000 people among the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development members in 2009, according to its data.

Korea follows Turkey’s marriage rate of 9.04 and 7.31 in the U.S.

Meanwhile, Korea continues to rank the lowest in birth rate at 1.23 per couple in 2010, followed by Hungary’s 1.26, Portugal’s 1.38 and Poland’s 1.38.

Korea had the fastest drop in birth rate after Mexico. Korea’s birth rate recorded 4.53 in 1970.

Besides rising inflationary pressure, the low birth rate is attributable to Koreans pushing back their marriage plans with the average age for tying the knot is around 30, up from the mid-20s.
