YEOL, the Korean Heritage Preservation Society, appointed Kim Young M’Young as its second chairwoman Tuesday, the society said Wednesday.

The 56-year-old has worked to preserve Korean cultural heritage as a board member of YEOL for 10 years since 2002. Kim also has served the National Trust for Cultural Heritage and Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra as a board member.

Founded as a nonprofit foundation under the control of the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea in 2002, YEOL runs various projects and programs to preserve Korean culture. It also campaigns to raise public awareness of the importance of the preservation of Korean heritage.

The society has improved an information system on cultural assets located in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province. It has held English lectures for foreigners about Korean history and culture at Seoul Museum of History for 10 years. It operates field studies for its members, including walking around historic or cultural sites. YEOL also sponsors traditional artisans and their exhibitions.

“I will try my best not only to broaden our cultural base but also to further promote the Korean heritage worldwide,” Kim said.

She is the wife of seven-term Saenuri Party lawmaker Chung Mong-joon.
