The top leaders of China, Japan and Russia have congratulated South Korean President-elect Park Geun-hye on her election victory, her party said Saturday.

Park, the 60-year-old daughter of the late authoritarian president, Park Chung-hee, was elected the country's first female president in Wednesday's election. The conservative candidate of the ruling Saenuri Party won just over 51 percent of the vote against main opposition Democratic United Party candidate Moon Jae-in's 48 percent.

Park will succeed President Lee Myung-bak, who is barred by law from seeking re-election, in late February.

In a handwritten letter, Chinese President Hu Jintao expressed hope that the two nations will continue to develop their ties, according to a Saenuri Party press release.

“China places high importance on its relations with South Korea,” Hu was quoted as saying. “We will make efforts to strengthen our good-neighborly and friendly ties, expand our mutually beneficial cooperation, raise our strategic partnership to a higher level by strengthening our international and regional cooperation, and bring more welfare to both nations and our peoples.”

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda also offered his congratulations in a letter, saying the neighboring nations have recently worked closely to coordinate their policies on North Korea and “added depth” to their economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

“Japan and South Korea not only share basic values but also share common interests in issues such as securing peace and prosperity in East Asia,” Noda wrote, according to the press release.

Russian President Vladimir Putin wished the president-elect success in leading state affairs.

“Relations between South Korea and Russia are developing in a very successful manner,” he said. “I am eager to work together with South Korea to strengthen our cooperation in politics, economy and trade, science and technology and various other fields.” (Yonhap News)

중ㆍ일ㆍ러 정상, 朴당선인에 축하 친서

새누리당 박근혜 대통령 당선인이 중국 후진타오(胡錦濤) 국가주석과 일본 노다 요시히코(野田佳彦) 총리, 러시아 블라디미르  푸틴 대통령으로부터 축하메시지를 담은 친서를 받았다고 이정현 최고위원이 22일  밝혔다.

후진타오 국가주석은 친서에서 “중국은 한국과의 관계를 고도로 중시하고 있으며 중ㆍ한관계를 항상 중국 대외관계의 중요한 위치에 두고 있다”며 “수교 20년 이래 양측의 공동노력에 의해 양국관계가 전면적으로 심도 있고 신속하게 발전됐다”고 말했다.

이어 “우리는 양국의 선린우호 관계를 더욱 공고히 발전시키고 호혜적 협력을 부단히 확대시키며 국제 및 지역 무대에서의 조율과 협력을 강화해 중ㆍ한 전략적 협력동반자관계를 더 높은 수준으로 끌어올리고 양국과 양 국민에게 더 많은 복지를 가져다주기 위해 노력해 나갈 것”이라고 덧붙였다.

노다 총리는 “최근 양국의 협력관계는 북한 문제에서의 긴밀한 공조는 물론이며, 경제•국민교류 등 폭넓은 분야에서 깊이를 더해 가고 있다”며 “이를 더욱 진전시켜 대국적인 견지에서 미래지향적이며 중층적인 양국 관계가 구축되는 것이 양국 공통의 이익이라고 생각한다”고 밝혔다.

그는 “일ㆍ한 양국은 기본적 가치를 공유할 뿐만 아니라, 동아시아 지역의 평화와 번영을 확보하는 등 공통의 이익을 공유하는 가장 중요한 이웃나라”라고 강조했다.

푸틴 대통령은 “대한민국 대통령으로 당선된 것을 진심으로 축하드린다”며  “앞으로 국사를 성공적으로 이끌어 나가길 기원한다”고 인사를 건넸다.

이어 “한ㆍ러 양국 관계는 매우 성공적으로 발전하고 있다”며 “본인은 정치, 경제•통상, 과학•기술 등 제반 분야에서 협력을 강화하기 위해 한국과 공동으로 노력할 적극적인 의지가 있다”고 강조했다. (연합뉴스)
