National Pension Service chairman and CEO Jun Kwang-woo will give a lecture on economy and finance at Harvard Business School in the United States Wednesday.

He is also scheduled to discuss economic and financial investment issues with the school faculty.

The former World Bank senior economist, who also served as chairman of the Financial Supervisory Commission, has been invited to speak at Harvard Business School under its distinguished speakers series, officials said. They added that global pension funds are required to play an increasingly important role in stabilizing financial markets and the global economic recovery.

In the 90-minute lecture, Jun will review the evolution of the free market economy, changes in the global economic environment, and the shift in the financial paradigm, and then present the roles of global pension funds as well as investment strategies of the National Pension Service.

During his U.S. trip from Nov. 12-18, he will check major investments made by the service and meet chief executives of global investors. They include JPMorgan Chase chairman Jamie Dimon; newly appointed Citi Group chief executive Michael Corbat; BlackRock chairman Laurence Fink; Blackstone chairman Steve Scharzman; KKR chairman George Roberts; and PIMCO chief executive Mohamed El-Eiran.

“The invitation to give a lecture at Harvard shows a rising international interest in the National Pension Service, which is growing fast as a leading pension fund,” Jun said.
