A Russian man awaiting trial on money-laundering charges said he has hired a pilot to fly a banner along the New York skyline seeking help from the Virgin Mary.

Vadim Vasilenko, whose U.S. court date has not been set, has already sent up banners seeking help from both President Barack Obama and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, the Russian news agency RIA-Novosti reported Tuesday.

Vasilenko said he hired a light aircraft to fly a banner reading “Romney, help!” over Manhattan and Brighton Beach for an hour on Monday. He did the same last week for Obama.

He said he would take his appeal to the Virgin Mary next.

Vasilenko has been jailed since his arrest five years ago on charges of laundering $47 million.

He told RIA Novosti he is prepared to admit partial guilt in exchange for time served and deportation to Russia. (UPI)

재판 앞둔 남자, "신이시어!" 현수막 날려

돈세탁 혐의로 미국에서 재판을 앞두고 있는 러시아 남자가 미국 뉴욕 상공에서 현수막을 날릴 비행기 조종사를 고용했다고 말했다.

바딤 바실렌코(Vadim Vasilenko)는 아직 재판 날짜를 받지 않았으나 이미 미 대통령 버락 오바마와 공화당 후보 밋 롬니에게 구원의 손길을 요청하는 현수막을 띄운 바 있다고 러시아 통신 RIA-Novosti가 화요일 차로 보도했다.

바실렌코는 월요일 맨하탄과 브라이턴 해변(Brighton Beach)에 한 시간 동안 "도와줘, 롬니!"라고 적힌 현수막을 날릴 경비행기를 구했다고 전했다. 지난 주에는 오바마를 상대로 같은 행위를 한 것으로 밝혀졌다.

바실렌코는 4천 7백만달러(520억원 가량)를 돈세탁한 혐의로 5년 전 체포되었고 현재 수감 중이다.

바실렌코는 RIA Novosti에 본국으로 돌아가는 조건으로 자신의 혐의를 일부 인정할 준비가 되어있다고 밝혔다. (코리아헤럴드)
