Journalism is no longer a job for Superman.

His alter ego Clark Kent is quitting the Daily Planet, the Metropolis newspaper where he's worked since the first Superman comics were published in the 1940s, the USA Today newspaper said Monday.

The plot twist -- prompted by the Daily Planet's takeover by a media conglomerate -- is one of many to appear in the new edition of Superman that goes on sale Wednesday in both digital and hard-copy forms.

‘Superman is arguably the most powerful person on the planet, but how long can he sit at his desk with someone breathing down his neck and treating him like the least important person in the world?’

"Why am I the one sounding like a grizzled ink-stained wretch who believes news should be about, I don't know, news?" says the Man of Steel, according to a leaked panel that appeared on the Newsarama.com website.

"This is really what happens when a 27-year-old guy is behind a desk and he has to take instruction from a larger conglomerate with concerns that aren't really his own," new Superman writer Scott Lobdell told USA Today.

There was no immediate confirmation from Superman publisher DC Comics, itself part of the Time Warner multimedia empire, but Lobdell posted a link to the USA Today article on his Twitter account. (AFP)

슈퍼맨, "기자 그만두고 블로거나 할까?


미국의 인기 만화 ‘슈퍼맨’ 시리즈의 주인공인 슈퍼맨이 기자직을 그만둘 예정이다.

슈퍼맨의 작가 스콧 롭델은 USA 투데이 신문과의 인터뷰에서 “27세 남성이 책상에 앉아서 자기와 상관없는 것들을 걱정하는 거대기업으로부터 명령을 받으면 이런 일이 일어나는 겁니다”라고 말했다.

“슈퍼맨은 거의 틀림없이 지구상에서 가장 강력한 사람인데, 얼마나 오랫동안 지구상에서 가장 덜 중요한 사람 취급을 받으며 살 수 있겠어요”라고 롭델은 덧붙였다.

슈퍼맨의 다음 직장이 어디가 될지는 확실히 정해지지 않았지만, 롭델은 그가 다른 언론사에 취직하지는 않을 것이라고 보며, 시민 기자나 온라인 블로거로 활동할 수도 있다고 말했다.
