A naked woman who showed up at a party in Spring Hill, Fla., uninvited and with a weapon was killed after approaching two off-duty cops, authorities say.

The woman, whose name and age were not released, was acting irrationally as she walked up to the off-duty officers, identified as Hernando County Sheriff's Deputy Rocky Howard, 31, and Tampa police officer William Mechler, 26, the Tampa Bay Times reported. It wasn't clear whether one or both off-duty officers shot the woman, and it wasn't disclosed what type of weapon she was holding, the newspaper said.

"It's my understanding that they did not know her," Hernando sheriff's Lt. Cinda Moore said.

The shooting occurred about 1:17 p.m. Saturday and the woman was dead at the scene.

"I can tell you that she was not part of the gathering, nor was she invited to the gathering," Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhaus said. "So, it wasn't like she was invited to the group. She actually came up uninvited."

Howard and Mechler were placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a state investigation of the shooting. (UPI)
