The 21-year-old boyfriend of a freshman found dead in her dorm room at State University of New York at Brockport has been charged with murder, authorities say.

The Monroe County medical examiner said Sunday Alexandra Kogut, 18, of New Hartford died of blunt force trauma, the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported.

Clayton Whittemore, a Utica College student who also is from New Hartford, was arrested at a rest stop near Syracuse several hours after Kogut's body was found, the newspaper said. 

The family of the victim said in a statement Sunday night that Kogut had been "thrilled to be beginning her college education."

"Her lovely and sweet demeanor was truly infectious and she will forever be missed," the statement said. College President John Halstead, in a statement, offered condolences to Kogut's family and friends on behalf of the campus community.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to her loved ones at this difficult time," he said. "These are trying times for our campus but I know we will pull together and support each other."

'여대생 기숙사 사망사건' 범인은 애인

뉴욕 주립대학의 기숙사에서 사체로 발견된 여대생의 남자친구가 살인 혐의로 기소됐다.

먼로 카운티의 검시관은 일요일(현지시각) 알렉산더 코것(18)이 둔력에 의한 외상성 손상에 의해 사망했다고 사인을 발표했다.

코것의 남자친구 클레이톤 와이트모어(21)는 코것의 사체가 발견된 지 몇 시간이 지나지 않아 휴게소에서 검거됐다고 현지 언론이 전했다. 와이트모어는 유티카 대학에 재학 중인 것으로 알려졌다.

유가족은 코것이 대학생활이 시작된다는 사실에 무척 들떠 있었다며 “코것의 사랑스러운 품행은 다른 이들에게 전파됐으며 그녀를 언제나 그리워 할 것”이라고 말했다.

대학 총장인 존 할스테드도 성명을 통해 코것의 가족에게 애도를 표했다.
