South Korean star midfielder Ki Sung-yueng reflected on the ball he headed into his own net in a World Cup qualifier against Uzbekistan on Tuesday.

“I should have concentrated more,” the 23-year-old, who plays for Swansea City in the English Premier League, told reporters after the game. “I think my own goal turned the tide of the game.”

After 13 minutes, he jumped to deflect a corner with a header, but the ball went into the net. He made amends for the error later by floating a brilliant cross into the box, which Kwak Tae-hwi headed across the goal line. From there Artyom Filiposyan knocked it into his own net.

The visiting Korean squad was expected to beat the lowly home side, but they drew 2-2. Still, Korea is on top of Group A with seven points from two wins and one draw.

“An away match is tough. I find satisfaction in completing the game without injury,” he said.

“The fourth qualifier against Iran may be tougher, but a good result will come if our team is better prepared.”

South Korea is to visit Iran for its fifth qualifying game on Oct. 17.

Ki also left a message on his Twitter after the game: “My failure in concentration and my own goal come to mind continuously. I’ll reflect on my amateurish play.”

The midfielder left for Britain on Wednesday to play in the Premier League.

“Swansea City is on the rise,” Ki said. “I’ll try to help its ascension.”

Ki moved to the top English league from Scottish side Celtic this season.
