Police in Napal arrested a man who shot dead his tree-climbing, 12-year-old son, thinking he saw a monkey intending to go after his crops.

Gupta Bahadur Pulami, 55, of Arghakhanchi fired upon his son, Chitra Bahadur, while he was sitting in a tree trying to chase away monkeys Friday. Pulami thought his son was a monkey shaking the trees and preparing to descend on his corn crops, The Himalayan Times reported.

“When the father saw some movement in the trees he fired in that direction thinking that it was [a] monkey,” police official Tika Bahadur Gurung told news Web site Nagariknews.com.

“I realized my mistake only when my son fell down and got stuck in one of the tree‘s branches,” Pulami told police after his arrest.

The fourth-grader was Pulami’s only son with his second wife who died four years ago, The Hindustan Times reported. He has three sons and three daughters from his first marriage. (UPI)

’원숭이 때문에’ 아들 총으로 쏜 父


나무를 타고 있던 자신의 아들을 원숭이로 착각해 총으로 쏘아 사망에 이르게 한 네팔인 남자가 경찰에 구속됐다.

네팔 아르가칸치에 거주하는 굽타 바하두르 풀라미(55)는 지난 금요일 원숭이를 쫓으려고 총을 쏘았다가 나무에 앉아있던 자신의 아들 치트라 바하두르 군을 숨지게 했다.

현지 언론인 히말라야타임즈에 따르면 풀라미는 나무에 있던 자신의 아들을 작물을 훔치기 위해 나타난 원숭이로 오인한 것으로 알려졌다.

현지 경찰관 티카 바하두르 구룽은 뉴스 웹사이트 나가리크뉴스닷컴(Nagariknews.com)과의 인터뷰에서 “풀라미는 나무에서 움직임을 포착하고 (그것이) 원숭이라고 생각해 총을 발표했다”고 밝혔다.

풀라미는 체포 후 경찰에 “아들이 나무에서 떨어진 것을 보고 나서야 엄청난 실수를 저질렀다는 것을 깨달았다”고 말했다.

피해자 치트라 군은 4학년 학생으로 풀라미와 4년 전 세상을 떠난 그의 두 번째 부인 사이에 태어난 하나뿐인 아들인 것으로 알려졌다. (코리아헤럴드)
