Former Culture Minister and actor Kim Myeong-gon will return to the small screen for the first time in four years with KBS’ TV drama “Gaksital,” according to reports.
Kim, who served in the government post from 2006-2007, will play Yang Baek, an independence activist and spiritual leader of the Joseon people.
“I accepted the offer because the role was based on the story of Kim Koo. There has been no drama like ‘Gaksital’ so far that seriously tells the story of the anti-Japanese movement,” Kim was quoted as saying by Yonhap News Agency.

“Gaksital” or Bridal Mask, set in the 1930s, tells the story of a police officer who wears the mask to fight against Japanese officers brutally treating Koreans. Rising star Joo Won is taking the title role in the drama.
After resigning from his ministerial post, Kim played a supporting role in TV drama “King Sejong” in 2008 and has been teaching at Dongyang University in North Gyeongsang Province since last year.
