Thanks in part to their extraordinary performances at the London Olympic Games, many South Korean female athletes are becoming stars.

As of Wednesday, they had won six medals, four of them gold, with several events remaining.

Ki Bo-bae won two gold medals in the women’s individual and team archery. Ki has also drawn great attention from Korean fans after the announcement that she was in a relationship with her gold-medalist colleague Oh Jin-hyuk.

Kim Ji-yeon, who had no international experience before the London Olympics, won a surprising gold medal in the women’s individual saber on Aug. 2.

Kim Yeon-koung is a world-class star in the Korean women’s volleyball team. Kim has shown a superior performance both on offense and defense in the women’s volleyball tournament.

Son Yeon-jae, an 18-year-old rhythmic gymnast, is one of the Korean athletes whose performance is most-anticipated. She won the nation’s first bronze at the World Cup Series this year. Son will perform in London on Thursday.

미녀 태극낭자들, 런던을 빛내다

2012 런던 올림픽에서 한국의 여자 대표팀 선수들이 각 분야에서 좋은 성적을 보여주며 한국 여성의 의지와 저력을 입증하고 있다.

한국 대표팀의 여자 선수들은 한국시간으로 수요일까지 금메달 4개를 포함해 모두 여섯 개의 메달을 거머쥐었다.

‘신궁’ 기보배(24) 선수는 여자 양궁 개인과 단체부분에서 모두 금메달을 획득하며 2관왕에 올랐다. 한편 기보배 선수는 양궁 대표팀 동료인 오진혁 선수와 연인 관계임이 밝혀지면서 화제가 되기도 했다.

한국 여자배구 대표팀의 국보급 스타 김연경(24) 선수는 아직 여자배구 토너먼트가 마무리되지 않았음에도 공격과 수비를 아우르는 놀라운 활약을 보이며 큰 인기를 얻고 있다.

오는 목요일부터 경기 일정을 시작하는 ‘체조요정’ 손연재(18) 선수도 큰 관심을 끌고 있다. 이미 국내 여러 광고에서 얼굴을 알린 바 있는 손 선수는 올해 리듬체조 월드컵 시리즈에서 한국 최초로 동메달을 따내며 기대주로 손꼽히고 있다.
