The daily visitor turnout for the 2012 Yeosu Expo hit a new record Saturday helped by the start of the vacation season and improvement in management of the exposition that will terminate in two weeks.
As many as 155,304 people visited the Yeosu Expo venue on the country's southern coast for the first Paris-based Bureau of International Exhibitions-approved event hosted by South Korea since the 1993 Daejeon Expo, organizers said.
The previous record was set Thursday when the expo had 146,299 people.
The expo had a total of 5.27 million people as of Saturday since its opening on May 12. Aug. 12 is the last day of the Yeosu Expo and organizers have said they have no plans to extend the period.
Organizers attribute the ever rising number of visitors to the beginning of the summer vacation season which peaks in late July and early August in South Korea.
Also attributing to the rise is the expo organizers' effort to introduce a variety of admission tickets for those coming late in the afternoon and evening.
The daily visitor turnout began surpassing the 100,000 mark in early July, although the number stayed at 40,000 to 70,000 until then.
The exposition is being held in the port city of Yeosu under the theme of "Living Ocean and Coast" with an emphasis on highlighting the important role the ocean and coast play in everyday lives and the need to live in harmony with the world's marine environment. (Yonhap News)
