Amid wide reports of his imminent team transfer, South Korean midfielder Park Ji-sung of Manchester United arrived in London Sunday, but refused to comment on the reports.

After leaving from Incheon one day ahead of schedule, Park arrived at Heathrow Airport at around 2:00 a.m. Park had been in Seoul for the special K-League All-star game on Thursday.

Earlier British news reports said the Premier League veteran has agreed to a deal with the Queens Park Rangers, known as QPR, for a transfer fee of 5 million pounds (US$7.7 million).

Emerging from an exit, Park declined to comment on reporters'

questions concerning the transfer, only saying, "Now I am not in a situation for interviews."

Park was instantly led into a sedan by a team official, and the car left the airport right away.

Park is expected to attend QPR's press conference on Monday, in which the team is to announce its global aspirations and the joining of the 31-year-old South Korean player. 

One sports agent well-versed in transfer matters here said "Park Ji-sung's transfer to QPR is a fixed fact." The deal may cover at least three years, he projected.

News reports said QPR's manager, Mark Hughes, is a fan of Park and the club's owner, Tony Fernandes, has encouraged the acquisition, given the marketing potential of bringing in an Asian player.

Park joined Manchester United in 2005, becoming the first South Korean to play in the Premier League. He has made 133 Premier League appearances and netted 19 goals.

The midfielder won four Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League crown during his Man United years. Manager Alex Ferguson has often turned to the Korean for key contests.

Park was relegated to a lesser role in the past season, however, conceding minutes to younger legs in the crowded United midfield.

If the deal is signed, Park will go from one of the storied Premier League clubs to a team that barely stayed in the first division this year. Man United battled the eventual Premier League champion Manchester City to the final contest last season, coming up just short of its 20th title. QPR finished in 17th among 20 clubs. 대기 차량 타고 공항 빠져나가

잉글랜드 프로축구 프리미어리그  퀸스파크레 인저스(QPR)로의 이적이 임박한 것으로 알려진 박지성(31•맨체스터 유나이티드)이 급거 영국에 복귀했다.

박지성은 7일(이하 한국시간) 오후 2시 인천공항에서 아시아나항공 직항을 타고 출발해 8일 오전 2시 런던 히스로 공항에 도착했다.

박지성은 원래 8일 출국할 것으로 알려졌으나 영국 언론에 QPR 입단이 임박했다 는 보도가 잇따라 나온 직후 하루 일찍 런던행 비행기에 올라 팬들의 관심이 쏠렸다.

검은 모자를 눌러 쓰고 입국장을 나온 박지성은 취재진의 인터뷰 요청에는 응하지 않고 구단 측 관계자로 보이는 영국인의 안내를 받아 미리 대기한 차량을 타고 공항을 빠져나갔다.

박지성은 맨체스터 유나이티드 구단을 떠나게 된 소감을 묻는 질문에 "지금은 인터뷰를 할 수 없는 상황"이라고만 짧게 대답했다.

박지성은 9일 오후 런던 밀뱅크 타워에서 열릴 예정인 QPR 구단의 기자회견에 참석할 것으로 예상되고 있다.

QPR 구단은 이에 앞서 한국 선수 영입 사실을 밝히면서 기자회견 현장에 새 선수가 참석할 것이라고 밝혔다.

영국 이적 시장에 밝은 한 에이전트는 "박지성이 QPR로 이적하는 것은 기정사실"이라며 "최소 3년 이상 계약을 했을 것"이라고 귀띔했다.

박지성의 이적료는 500만 파운드(한화 약 88억원) 수준으로 알려졌지만 일부 언론에서는 200만 파운드(35억원)로 추정했다.

영국 언론들은 마크 휴스 QPR 감독이 박지성을 높이 평가하고 토니 페르난데스 구단주에게 적극적으로 권유해 이적이 성사됐다고 전했다.

페르난데스 구단주도 경험이 풍부한 박지성이 QPR의 경기력은 물론 아시아권을 겨냥한 마케팅 측면에서도 구단에 도움이 된다고 판단한 것으로 알려졌다.

2010-2011 시즌 챔피언십에서 우승해 1부리그로 복귀한 QPR은 지난 시즌 강등 위기에 몰렸으나 리그 17위로 1부리그에 남았다.
