LS Cable & System Ltd., South Korea’s top wire and cable maker, said Monday it has landed a deal to build a high-voltage power line in France, the first local company to do so.

Under the deal with state-run Electricity of France, LS Cable said it will set up a 5.5-kilometer, 225-kilovolt transmission line for a power plant in northwestern France.

LS Cable said the contract also calls for supplying materials for associated connectors, laying the cables and supervising the overall project. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The deal with EDF, the world’s second-largest power utility noted for its high quality standards, is a testament to the global recognition of LS Cable’s top-notch technological level, LS officials said.

“LS Cable has been looking forward to bagging a supply deal with France, a world leader in cutting-edge power engineering technology,” chief executive Sohn Jong-ho said. “LS Cable will use the deal as a springboard for speeding up its inroads into overseas markets.”
