South Korean stocks opened lower Friday in the face of mounting eurozone uncertainties and a weaker-than-expected U.S. job report, analysts said.

The Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 0.57 percent, or 10.69 points, to 1,860.79 in the first 15 minutes of trading.

Market bellwether Samsung Electronics lost 2.14 percent, with top automaker Hyundai Motor also giving up 0.21 percent.

The local currency was trading at 1,163.45 won to the greenback as of 9:15 a.m., up 2.85 won from Thursday's close. (Yonhap News)
