Ven. Jihyun named director of Jogye Order’s head office

Ven. Jihyun, director of Cultural Corps of Korean Buddhism, an affiliate of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, has been appointed the director of the head office of the nation’s largest Buddhist sect.
The Most Ven. Jaseung, president of the Jogye Order, appointed Jihyun on Monday to take the post after members of the office offered to resign last week, taking responsibility for a gambling incident involving high-ranking monks.
The Jogye Order apologized for the incident after a video clip showing its high-ranking monks gambling, drinking and smoking at a hotel surfaced.
Ven. Jihyun is an abbot of Chungryang Temple in Bongwha, North Gyeongsang Province, and has been leading Cultural Corps of Korean Buddhism that promotes Jogye Order’s cultural activities including temple stay and temple food.
