Australian actor Matthew Newton arrested in Miami

Authorities say Australian actor Matthew Newton has been released from a Miami jail following a weekend arrest.

A Miami-Dade County jail official says the 35-year-old Newton was arrested Friday evening on charges of resisting police and trespassing on property after a warning. He was released Saturday evening on $2,000 bond.

Newton has had legal troubles before.

In 2010, Australian ``Transformers'' actress Rachael Taylor took out a restraining order against then-boyfriend Newton, accusing him of violently assaulting her while the couple were in Rome. He was dropped as host of a new Australian talent series.

In 2007, he pleaded guilty to assaulting then-girlfriend Brooke Satchwell during a breakup argument. Earlier that year, Newton spent 28 days in a Melbourne rehab clinic that specializes in drug and alcohol issues. (AP)

濠 유명배우, 술집에서 난동부리다 체포

호주의 유명 배우인 매튜 뉴튼(35)이 미국 마이애미의 한 술집에서 새벽에 난동을 부리다가 출동한 경찰에 체포됐다고 호주 언론이 9일 보도했다.

호주 언론에 따르면 뉴튼은 지난 7일(현지시간) 새벽 4시께 마이애미의 한 바에서 술에 잔뜩 취해 주변 손님들에게 시비를 걸며 행패를 부리다가 신고를 받고 출동 한 경찰에까지 욕설을 퍼부으며 저항하다가 결국 체포됐다.

경찰은 술에 취해 주변 손님들을 괴롭히던 뉴튼에게 바에서 나가달라고 정중히 요청했으나 뉴튼은 자신이 호주인이기 때문에 편견을 갖고 대하고 있다며 경찰을 향해 욕설을 퍼붓고 저항하다가 결국 무력으로 진압당해 끌려나왔다.

뉴튼은 같은 날 오전 10시께 2천 달러의 보석금을 내고 풀려났으나 공무집행방해 등의 혐의로 기소돼 현지 법정에 서게 됐다.

지난해 12월 시드니 인근에서 자신이 타고 가던 택시기사를 폭행해 기소되기도 했던 뉴튼은 호주 내에서 자신에게 쏠린 이목을 피하고 신병을 치료하려는 목적으로 미국을 방문하던 중이었다.

호주 출신 할리우드 여배우 레이첼 테일러의 옛 애인으로도 잘 알려진 뉴튼은 2년 전에도 이탈리아 로마의 한 호텔에서 테일러를 폭행한 혐의로 테일러에 의해 고소당하는 등 추문이 끊이지 않고 있다. (연합뉴스)
