Participants are set to walk 10 kilometers in cities across Korea to raise awareness of international natural disasters. Mannam Volunteer Association is to hold the “10 km in Their Shoes” walks around the country on April 14.

The group started last year to raise awareness for countries struck by natural disasters such as Turkey, Pakistan and Japan. People from those countries shared stories about their families back home during a walk in Seoul last year.
The Seoul and Gyeonggi-do Mannam branches will meet at the fountains near Seoul Grand Park Subway Station’s exit 2 before walking 10 kilometers around the park. It costs 2,100 won to enter the park, but participation is free. The event will run from 1-6 p.m.

Mannam will also hold walks in Busan, Chuncheon, Jeonju, Incheon, Daejeon and Gwangju at the same time.

“It will be an opportunity to become one as we remember our global family abroad and raise awareness to get others to support those who are suffering through understanding and ultimately through action,” a Mannam spokesperson said. “We will focus on the countries of Japan, Pakistan, Chile, Haiti, Thailand and Turkey. These are countries which have recently experienced a natural disaster on a large scale within the past two years and are still recovering. Let us remind the world of their situation and be a support in every way we can.”
