Samsung Electronics said Wednesday that the firm was given the Carbon Trust Standard certificate by a London-based organization for its carbon-reductive management.

Being named the first firm in the country to receive the certificate, Samsung was recognized for its carbon-reduction efforts in eight different workplaces here, according to Samsung officials. Carbon Trust Standard is valid for two years.

This comes after the company won the Carbon Footprint for the Galaxy 2 and Galaxy Note earlier in March.

“Samsung Electronics has been continuing with its greenhouse gas reduction operations under the slogan ‘Planet First’,” said Park Sang-bum, executive director of Samsung Electronics CS Environment Center. “We will accelerate the decrease in greenhouse gas emissions for a clean earth.”

In 2009, the company declared it would run business through “green-management,” aiming to cut its greenhouse gas emissions between 2008 and 2013 by half.

As a result, it reduced emissions by 40 percent by last year and is working on the remaining 10 percent, its officials said.

The Korea Productivity Center and Carbon Trust Standard Company carried out the evaluation process based on the global standard, based on the applicant’s green-management strategies, greenhouse gas emission, energy saving results and anti-greenhouse gas emission activities.
