Song Sang-hyun, president of the International Criminal Court, has been appointed head of the South Korean committee for the United Nations Children’s Fund on Wednesday.
The Korean Committee for UNICEF’s secretary-general Park Dong-eun and Bokwang FamilyMart chairman and CEO Hong Seok-joh have both been appointed as vice-presidents.
Son and the rest of the board will take office April 1.
UNICEF provided assistance to South Korean children for about 43 years starting in 1950, the year the Korean War broke out. In 1994, the South Korean committee for UNICEF was established.
