The British Embassy and Lush Korea staff have walked through Seoul to raise charity cash as part of the U.K.’s Sport Relief initiative. About 60 people from the embassy and U.K.-based company walked a mile from the Cheonggye Plaza to raise money for “Woori House.”

The shelter helps new settlers from North Korea who are aged 20 or below, and have no other family members living in South Korea.

Sport Relief is a joint initiative by the U.K. charity organization Comic Relief and the BBC. The sporting event is held every two years to help those in need through sport and entertainment. Various governments, companies, and schools participate to raise money for a range of good causes.

U.K. Ambassador Scott Wightman said: “I’m delighted to have partnered with Lush for this year’s Sport Relief Mile event.

“In this huge year of sport for the U.K., Sport Relief efforts around the world are making a real difference to people’s lives. Here in Korea, Woori House provides invaluable support to the most isolated members of the new settler community. I’m really grateful to all the participants who have helped us provide support to this deserving cause.”

Lush Korea CEO Woo Mi-ryung said: “I sincerely hope that the efforts made by the staff of Lush Korea and the British Embassy Seoul will help spread a message of hope to the new settlers from North Korea and to anyone else who is working toward his or her dreams.”
