Lady Gaga sets Twitter fan record

Lady Gaga has become the first person to amass20 million followers on Twitter.

The pop star cracked the milestone on Monday, beating out other pop culture luminaries such as Justin Bieber, who has 18.1 million followers, and Katy Perry, whose Twitter fans number 15.6 million.

The top non-pop star on Twitter is US president Barack Obama, who has 12.8 million followers, putting him behind other world leaders such as Britney Spears, Rihanna and Shakira.

Lady Gaga also has 48.8 million fans on Facebook, and recently launched her own Little Monsters social network, an exclusive online hangout just for her fans.

It's no coincidence that she has been crowned the queen of social media. Unlike other stars, she runs her Twitter account herself, tweeting to her fans - whom she calls "little monsters" – short missives about everything from fashion advice to romantic insights. (DPA)

트위터에서 미국 팝 가수 '레이디 가가'가 팔로워 2천만 명을 돌파한 첫 주인공이 됐다.

각각 팔로워 1천810만명과 1천560만명을 보유한 미 팝 가수 '저스틴 비버'와 '캐 티 페리'를 누른 레이디 가가는 5일 현재 팔로워 최다 보유라는 대기록을 세우게 됐다.

레이디 가가는 다른 소셜 네트워크 서비스인 '페이스북'에서도 약 4천880만명의 팬을 보유하고 있다.

최근에는 그녀의 팬들만 드나들 수 있는 '리틀 몬스터 소셜 네트워크(Little Monster social network)'라는 온라인 서비스도 출시했다.

상황이 이렇다 보니 그녀가 '소셜 미디어의 여왕'으로 불리는 것도 우연이라 할 수 만은 없다.

그녀는 다른 스타들과 달리 직접 자신의 트위터 계정을 운영하는 것으로 알려졌다. 또 팬들을 '리틀 몬스터'라는 애칭으로 부르며, 패션에 관한 조언부터 연애상담까지 다양한 주제의 메시지들을 주고 받고 있다.

한편 팝 스타를 제외했을 때 트위터에서 가장 많은 팔로워를 보유한 사람은 버락 오바마 미 대통령이었다. 오바마 대통령은 1천280만명의 팔로워를 보유해 브리트니 스피어스나 리아나, 샤키라와 같은 스타들 다음에 자리매김됐다.
