South Korean tech firm Samsung Electronics Co. said Thursday it has developed an upgraded server solution in cooperation with Microsoft Corp. to provide customers with a system of a high level of performance and efficiency. 

The so-called "Green Server Solution" utilizes Samsung's 20 nanometer-class Double Data Rate 3 (DDR3) memory chip and solid state drives (SSDs) together with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 and Hyper-V, which boosted the memory configurations twice as fast, while consuming 50 percent less power, the company said in a statement.

"By utilizing the green server solution which combines the two companies' leading-edge developments, our customers can enjoy a high level of performance and efficiency in their server systems," said Hong Wan-hoon, executive vice president of memory sales and marketing at Samsung.

"Samsung will step up the collaboration with Microsoft and keep on developing green computing solutions for more effective levels of the IT investment," he added.

Samsung's previous systems used 40 nanometer-class DDR3 and a hard drive disk.

The development came five months after the South Korean tech giant collaborated with the Microsoft Technology Center to develop an optimized server solution that used 30 nanometer-class green DDR3 memory modules.
