Japanese baby survives 10-floor fall

TOKYO (AFP) - A Japanese baby survived a 10-floor fall virtually unscathed after being deliberately dropped by his father from their apartment on Thursday, reports said.

The one-year-old boy landed in some shrubbery at the bottom of the building, where he was found in tears by police officers who had rushed to the scene, local reports said.

Police arrested the boy's 37-year-old father on suspicion of attempted murder. The suspect was named by media as Shingo Hashimoto, who reportedly admitted to the crime.

"I tried to kill my son. I tried to strangle him with my hands and dropped him" out of his bedroom window, the police quoted the father as saying, according to Kyodo News.

The police said the youngster suffered only slight cuts to his face and Hashimoto called the police himself after the incident, Kyodo said.

Hashimoto's family told police that he recently seemed to be "distressed about work".

Hashimoto had been alone with his son at the time of the incident, local media said.

있는 건설회사 사택 아파트 10층에서 회사원인 남성(37)이 아들을 살해하기 위해 침실 창 밖으로 던졌다.

하지만 아파트 지상 화단의 정원수에 떨어진 아들은 병원으로 옮겨졌으나 별 상 처 없이 무사한 것으로 알려졌다.

아버지 회사원은 아들을 던진 뒤 바로 "아이를 죽였다"고 경찰에 신고했으며, 출동한 경찰이 화단에서 울고 있는 아이를 발견했다.

이 회사원은 "업무상의 고민이 있어 장남인 아들의 목을 조른뒤 창 밖으로 떨어 뜨렸다"고 진술했다.

경찰은 회사원을 살인미수 혐의로 체포해 경위를 조사하고 있다.
