SK Telecom, KT start to accept preorders for iPhone 4S

South Korea's two leading mobile carriers SK Telecom Co. and KT Corp. on Friday began receiving preorders for Apple Inc.'s latest iPhone 4S, which is slated to hit the local market next week.

South Korean customers could preorder the iconic smartphone on the companies' Web sites from Friday. Preorders for the newest iPhone are also available at local retail stores of the mobile carriers.

SK Telecom and KT said deliveries are scheduled for Nov. 11.

Neither mobile network would disclose the exact number of preorders they received overnight. The white 32-giga iPhone 4S appears the most popular model as applicants have to wait longer for its delivery, according to KT's Web site.

The iPhone 4S was one of the last products created by the company before Apple founder Steve Jobs died on Oct. 5.

Apple applied for a radio certificate from a South Korean national agency for its new phone late last month and received approval on Nov. 1.

Apple sold more than 4 million iPhone 4S smartphones during the first three days of its launch in seven countries. The iPhone series officially went on sale in South Korea in November 2009 and topped 6 million sales as of June this year.

The number of smartphone subscribers in South Korea surpassed the 20 million mark last month, with nearly 40 percent of South Korean residents carrying such mobile devices, according to government data. (Yonhap News)

아이폰4S 예약가입 시작…81만4천원부터

신청자 폭주해 서버 다운되기도

SK텔레콤과 KT가 4일 애플 아 이폰4S의 가격을 공개하고 예약가입 신청을 받기 시작했다.

SK텔레콤과 KT는 이날 0시 각각 T스마트샵(www.tsmartshop.co.kr)과 올레닷컴(www.olleh.com) 등 인터넷 사이트에서 아이폰4S 예약 판매에 들어갔다.

아이폰4S의 출고가는 16GB 모델 81만4천원, 32GB 94만6천원, 64GB 107만8천원이라고 KT가 밝혔다.

KT의 월 5만4천원 스마트폰 요금제(i-밸류)에 24개월 약정으로 가입하면 요금 할인이 적용돼 16GB를 21만2천원에, 32GB를 34만4천원에, 64GB를 47만6천원에 사는 효과를 볼 수 있다.

SK텔레콤은 아직 요금제별 판매가를 공개하지 않았다.

두 이통사의 예약판매 사이트는 이날 새벽 예약 신청자가 몰려 한때 접속이 지연되는 현상이 발생하기도 했다.

SK텔레콤의 예약 사이트는 신청자가 폭주해 오전 2시10분까지 서버가 다운돼버렸다. SK텔레콤은 "서버 용량을 시간당 20만명으로 설정해 놨는데 그보다 많은 신청 자가 몰렸다"고 설명했다.

KT의 경우 휴대전화 문자 '##4545'번으로 예약 신청한 기존 아이폰 가입자 선착 순 1만명에게 아이폰4S 개통 우선 차수를 부여하는 이벤트가 15분 만에 마감됐다.

두 사업자는 이날 아침부터 전국 대리점을 통해 오프라인에서 예약가입을 접수하고 있다.

예약가입자는 아이폰4S 개통 차수 순번을 부여받는다. 따라서 예약가입을 먼저 신청할수록 아이폰4S 출시일인 11일부터 빨리 개통해 사용할 수 있다.

KT 올레닷컴에 따르면 아이폰4S 흰색 32GB 모델 예약자가 다른 모델 예약자에 비해 더 많은 개통 차수를 기다려야 하는 것으로 나타났다.

한편 KT는 기존 아이폰3GS나 아이폰4 가입자가 아이폰4S로 변경하는 경우 제공 하는 할인 혜택을 강화했다.

이전까지 KT의 아이폰3GS 보상가는 최대 10만원이었지만 8GB는 10만원, 16GB 13 만원, 32GB 15만원으로 변경됐다. 아이폰4 최대 보상가도 16만원에서 8GB 16만원, 1 6GB 19만원, 32GB 21만원으로 올랐다.

SK텔레콤은 조만간 아이폰4S 프로모션 내용을 발표할 예정이다.

예약가입은 SK텔레콤과 KT에 동시 신청할 수 있다. 또 추후 가격이나 프로모션 내용이 공개된 것을 보고 신청을 취소해도 된다.
