The Chung family organization, led by Rep. Chung Mong-joon, celebrated the 20th anniversary of its foundation on Thursday in Seoul.
Started in 1991 by Chung Ju-yung, the deceased founder of Hyundai Group, the organization aims at boosting kinship among the people with surname Chung and runs 16 local chapters nationwide.

The six-term lawmaker of the ruling Grand National Party was first elected as chief of the organization in 2008 and again in 2009.
“Korea is facing a turning point,” Chung said in a speech at the ceremony. “To make this chance a truly novel one, we should venture into each sector of society through innovative ideas and decisive action.”
About 1,000 federation members participated in the event, according to Hyundai Heavy Industries, which Chung serves as the largest shareholder. The list includes Democratic Party Rep. Chung Dong-young and GNP Reps. Chung Doo-un and Chung Chin-sup.
