Hyun Bin talks about life as a marine

Korean heartthrob Hyun Bin has contributed to a book on his daily life in the marines, according to reports.

In the book titled “I am a Marine,” Hyun is one of the eight writers who portrayed their lives as marines and talked about how their duties have changed them.

The book is drawing public attention, particularly from Hyun’s fans, as it includes some photos depicting Hyun as a brave marine.

The actor, famous for his recent appearance in hit television drama “Secret Garden,” joined the Marines in March for his mandatory military service.

The 29-year-old currently serves in the 6th Marine Brigade on Baengnyeong Island, an island near the North-South border.

“I want to find the unknown part of me (while serving the military), the one that is neither the actor Hyun Bin, nor Kim Tae-pyeong, a faithful human being who repeatedly ask himself ‘is this your best? Are you sure?’” writes Hyun in the book.

Kim Tae-pyeong is Hyun’s real name.

The book will hit shelves on Aug. 8 nationwide. The book is on presale at Yes24, a major online bookseller here.

해병대에 입대한 배우 현빈(본명 김태평)이 나는 해병이다’라는 제목의 책을 내달 8일 출간한다.

현재 백령도 6여단에서 복무 중인 현빈은 다른 해병대 7인과 함께 ‘대한민국 해병대’와 ‘나’라는 주제로, 가입소 기간부터 정식 훈련 6주 과정, 자대 배치 이후의 생활까지를 책에 담아냈다.

이 책은 출간이전부터 비상한 관심을 끌고 있는데, 군 생활 중인 현빈의 생생한 모습을 화보로 담았기때문.

현빈은 책에 “군대에 있는 동안 또 다른 나를 발견하고 싶습니다. 이미 알려진 배우 현빈도 아니고 ‘이게 최선입니까? 확실해요?’를 끝없이 반복하며 스스로를 채찍질하는 성실한 인간으로서의 김태평 만도 아니고 아직까지 내가 모르는 또 다른 나를 찾아보고 싶습니다”라고 썼다.

또한 “나름대로 열심히 한다고 했습니다. 정말 열심히, 그리고 드디어, 빨간 명찰을 달았습니다. 오른쪽 가슴에 빨간 명찰을 달고 보니 뭐랄까, 뿌듯하기도 하고 어딘가가 뜨거원지는 듯한 느낌입니다”라며 “저에게는 이 1년 9개월이 무척이나 소중한 시간입니다. 이 기간 동안 저 자신의 정신적 육체적 한계점을 알아보고 싶고, 그 한계에 부딪쳐보고 싶습니다”라는 글이 군 생활하는 모습의 사진과 함께 실렸다.
