Volkswagen Korea, the local importer of German automaker Volkswagen AG, introduced the latest version of its Touareg crossover sport utility vehicle (SUV) in South Korea on Monday.

   The mid-size model has a wider wheelbase compared to the older model but its weight has been brought down by a maximum 201 kilograms. It also comes with an eight-gear automatic transmission, a first for the German carmaker.

   The company said that the upgraded vehicle has inherited the "powerful" outward lines of its predecessor model but incorporates many improved features and a stylish interior that befits the overall luxury image of the SUV.

   Compared to the previous Touareg, Volkswagen said there is more leg room for passengers in the back seat.

   The new SUV comes with either a V6 BlueMotion or V8 TDI engine.

The V8 engine will have maximum horsepower of 340 and a torque of

81.6 kilogram-meters.

   This will allow the car to accelerate from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.8 seconds with its safe max speed rated at 242 kilometers per hour, which is on par with many sports cars, the company said.

   The vehicle's fuel economy has been verified at 10.4 kilometers per liter with carbon dioxide emissions reaching 258 grams per kilometer.

   The local price for the full-option V8 vehicle has been set at 114.7 million won (US$107,400), inclusive of value-added tax. The price of the V6, meanwhile, has been set at little more than 80 million won.

폴크스바겐, 신형 투아렉 국내 출시

    (서울=연합뉴스) 김태종 기자 = 폴크스바겐 코리아는 4일 그랜드하얏호텔에서 한층 업그레이드된 신형 투아렉 출시발표회를 갖고, 판매에 들어간다고 밝혔다.

    투아렉은 2009년 다카르 랠리에서 디젤 모델로는 처음 우승을 차지한 이후 2011 년까지 3년 연속 우승을 차지한 스포츠유틸리티(SUV)모델이다.

    신형 투아렉은 휠베이스가 2천893mm로 전 세대 대비 41mm나 늘어나면서 차체가 커졌지만, 최대 201kg(V6 TDI 블루모션 기준)의 무게가 줄었다.

    폴크스바겐 모델로는 처음 8단 자동 변속기가 장착됐다.

    디자인은 고유의 강인한 이미지를 계승하면서도 프리미엄 SUV에 걸맞은  세련됨 과 우아함을 더했고, 편의사양과 내부 인테리어는 대폭 업그레이드됐다.

    특히, 뒷좌석 무릎공간은 이전보다 3배 길어졌고, 뒷좌석 시트도 앞뒤로 160mm 조절이 가능하다.

    V6 TDI 블루모션과 V8 TDI R-Line 2개 모델로 선보이는데, V8 TDI R-Line에  탑 재된 4천134cc V8 TDI 엔진은 최대 340마력, 81.6kg.m의 최대 토크를 자랑한다.

    정지상태에서 100km/h까지 도달하는데 걸리는 시간은 5.8초에 불과하며, 안전 최고 속도가 242km/h에 달해 스포츠카 수준의 달리기 실력을 보여준다.

    공인 연비는 10.4km/ℓ, 이산화탄소 배출량은 258g/km이다.

    판매 가격은 V6 TDI 블루모션 모델이 부가세 포함 8천90만원, V8 TDI  R-Line모 델이 1억1천470만원이다.

    박동훈 사장은 "신형 투아렉은 폴크스바겐의 혁신적인 기술을 통해 성능과 효율 이 획기적으로 업그레이드됐다"며 "신형 투아렉 출시를 통해 폴크스바겐의 대형  럭 셔리 시장에서의 위상이 대폭 상승할 것으로 기대한다"고 말했다.
