Child millionaires get richer

The recent increases in Korean stock prices have boosted the number of child millionaires who are members of chaebol families.

The number of under-12 children with assets of more than 100 million won ($95,000) totaled 87 as of April 29, according to chaebol.com, an Internet site specializing in information on family-owned conglomerates.

The number increased from last year’s 79.

Of them, 23 kids were found to be worth 1 billion won, an increase from last year’s 13.

Four had more than 10 billion won, up from last year’s three, the survey showed.

The richest was the eldest son of GS executive vice president Huh Yong-su, with an estimated wealth of 68.1 billion won. The value of his holdings of GS stocks has increased by 130.4 percent over the past year.

His father is a cousin of GS Group chairman Huh Chang-soo.

이들은 금수저를 물고 태어난 덕분에 일하지 않고도 자연스레 주식부자 대열에 올라설 수 있었다.

3일 재벌닷컴이 상장사 대주주나 특수관계인 중 만 12세 이하 어린이(1998년 4 월 30일 이후 출생자)의 주식지분 가치를 지난달 29일 종가 기준으로 평가한 결과, 1억원 이상 보유자가 87명으로 집계됐다. 지난해 79명보다 8명이나 늘어났다.

100억원이 넘는 어린이 주식부자는 지난해보다 1명 늘어난 4명, 이들을 포함한 10억원 이상은 13명에서 23명으로 무려 10명이나 증가했다.

어린이 주식부자가 전통적으로 많은 GS가(家)와 범LG家의 손자녀들이 대거 상위 권에 포함됐다.

1위는 허용수 GS 전무의 장남인 A군(681억원)이다. 허 전무는 허창수 G S그룹 회장의 4촌이다. A군이 보유 중인 GS 주식 76만341주 가치는 1년새 130.4% 늘 어났다.

허태수 GS홈쇼핑 사장의 딸인 B양(256억원), 허용수 전무의 차남인 C군 (244억원), 허경수 코스모 회장의 아들인 D군(103억원) 등 허씨 집안 어린이 4명이 모두 100억원대 이상을 기록하면서 1~4위를 휩쓸었다.
