The machine called Artas System, which identifies and harvests follicular units, has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for commercial use. 

Its developer, Restoration Robotics, claims that it can extract 750 to 1000 follicles per hour, an upgraded version of the traditional harvesting techniques.

The Artas System is equipped with high-tech features -- an interactive, image-guided robotic arm, special imaging technologies, small dermal punches and a computer interface.

The machine functions when positioned over the patient’s scalp and once the follicles are gathered, they are stored until implanted by a surgeon. 

Surgery is made simpler and is much quicker with this new robot. Hair follicles are harvested from the non-balding parts of your head and implanted into the balding areas- same as the traditional method- only with much higher speed and accuracy. After the surgery, no more care is needed than ordinary care such as washing, styling and trimming.

But bad news for blondes -- the device only works with brown and black hair at this stage.
