South Korea’s telecom titan KT Corp. said Monday that it has started offering cloud services in three cities in the United States and Germany, aiming to attract game developers and other content providers.

The telecom company rolled out remote storage services that allow streaming and downloading data from online servers in New York, Los Angeles and Frankfurt, it said in a statement.

The company aims to lure online and mobile game developers and other content providers doing business in the region. The service will be useful for those in need of reliable online storage space that can be accessed from multiple gadgets through an Internet connection, KT added.

KT is South Korea’s dominant fixed-line service operator and the second-biggest wireless carrier.

South Korean mobile operators and Internet companies have broken into the fledgling cloud service in the last couple of years in a bid to find new revenue sources as revenue growth from the domestic mobile market has stagnated.

The booming markets for tablet computers and mobile devices, as well as the widespread deployment of broadband Internet in South Korea, is expected to spark demand for such cloud service, experts said.
