Hyundai Heavy Industries announced Sunday that it completed building the world’s largest gas-powered power station in Saudi Arabia.

Located in Jubail in Eastern Saudi Arabia, the plant was built as part of a $2.7 billion contract for a power and desalination plant issued by the state-run utilities firm Marafiq in 2007.

The contract was awarded to an international consortium composed of Hyundai Heavy, the U.S.-based GE and France’s Sidem.

For its part, Hyundai Heavy built the $1.1 billion power plant with an output capacity of 2,750 megawatts, which is equivalent to 10 percent of Saudi Arabia’s total power output, the company said.

According to the company, the contract has aided in expanding its presence in the Middle East with the company winning a $1.6 billion contract for a power plant in Saudi Arabia and a 1 trillion won ($924 million) contract for a marine plant in Qatar.
