BUSAN -- A man set off an unspecified explosive at an apartment in this southern port city of Busan early Sunday, killing himself and wounding two police officers, police said.

   The 51-year-old, only identified by his surname Song, detonated the explosive on the 10th floor of the apartment building at around 4:40 a.m., after his alleged girlfriend repeatedly refused to open the door to her apartment, police said.

   Song, who was carrying the explosive, died instantly from the incident, while two officers who arrived on the spot at the time of the blast were slightly injured due to shrapnel, they noted.

   The explosion was strong enough to destroy nearby windows and damage the 10th floor and the ceiling running above the 9th floor's aisle, causing some neighbors to evacuate in the early hours, witnesses said.

   Police immediately dispatched an explosive disposal unit to the building and jointly conducted an on-site inspection with the intelligence agency and the military, officials said. They have also sent gunpowder residue to the state forensic authority for analysis, they added. (Yonhap News)

부산 아파트서 폭발물 터져 50대男 숨져

신고출동 경찰 2명 부상, 주민 대피소동

(부산=연합뉴스) 김선호 기자 = 부산의 한 아파트에서 폭발물이 터져 50대 남성 이 숨지고 신고출동한 경찰관 2명이 다쳤다.

    3일 오전 4시40분께 부산 서구 토성동 모 아파트 10층 복도에서 종류를 알 수 없는 폭발물이 터져 송모(51)씨가 그 자리에서 숨지고 신고를 받고 출동한 표모  경 위, 강모 경사 등 경찰관 2명이 다쳤다.

    경찰은 송씨가 이날 새벽 평소 알고 지내던 A(40)씨를 만나러 아파트를  찾아갔 으며 A씨가 문을 열어주지 않자 들고 간 폭발물을 터트린 것으로 추정하고 있다.

    이 과정에서 A씨가 난동을 부리는 송씨를 경찰에 신고했으며 출동한 경찰 2명이 10층 엘리베이터에 내리자마자 폭발물이 터지는 바람에 부상을 입었으나 현재  생명 에 지장은 없는 상태다.

    폭발물이 터진 10층 아파트 바닥과 9층 복도 천장은 강력한 폭발 충격으로 움푹 파이거나 내려앉았고 A씨 집 현관문은 휜 채로 떨어져 나갔다.

    이날 새벽 유리창이 깨지는 등 갑작스러운 폭음에 놀란 주민들은 자다가 영문도 모른 채 대피하는 소동이 벌어지기도 했다.

    이에 앞서 술에 취한 송씨는 이날 오후 2시5분께도 A씨를 찾아와 난동을 부려 경찰이 출동해 송씨가 타고온 차량으로 돌려보냈던 것으로 밝혀졌다.

    경찰은 경찰특공대 폭발물 처리반을 급파하는 한편 국정원, 군당국과 함께 사건 현장을 합동심문했으며 현장에서 수거한 화약 등 폭발잔해를 국립과학수사연구원에 보내 폭발물 종류를 감정의뢰했다.

    경찰은 또한 A씨 등을 상대로 정확한 경위를 조사하는 한편 송씨가 어떻게 폭발 물을 입수하게 됐는지도 조사 중이다.
