S. Korea ranks 2nd in consumer prices hike in Feb.

   South Korea's consumer prices grew at the second-fastest pace among member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in February, data showed Wednesday.

   According to the data offered by the OECD, South Korea's consumer prices jumped 4.5 percent last month from a year earlier, the second steepest hike among its 34 member nations. Estonia ranked first with 5.7 percent.

   In January, South Korea came in fourth with 4.1 percent, but its price increase accelerated last month, exceeding those of Greece and Turkey, which posted 4.4 percent and 4.2 percent price hikes, respectively, the data showed.

   In addition, food prices in South Korea surged 12.2 percent, also ranking second among the OECD countries, following Estonia with 13.2 percent. In January, South Korea topped the list with on-year food price hikes of 11.6 percent.

   South Korea saw its core inflation that excludes volatile food and energy prices grow 2.5 percent in February, the sixth-highest increase after Turkey, Israel, Britain, Mexico and New Zealand, the data showed.

한국 2월 소비자물가 OECD 2위

    (서울=연합뉴스) 김준억 기자 = 우리나라의 소비자물가 상승률이 경제협력개발기구(OECD) 회원국 가운데 두 번째로 높은 것으로 나타났다.

    30일 OECD의 2월 소비자물가 통계에 따르면 한국의 소비자물가는 지난해 같은 달보다 4.5%나 급등해 34개 회원국 가운데 에스토니아(5.7%)에 이어 2위를 기록했다 .

    또 그리스(4.4%)와 영국(4.4%), 이스라엘(4.2%), 터키(4.2%), 뉴질랜드(4.0%) 등도 4%대의 높은 상승률을 보였다.

    OECD 회원국의 평균 소비자물가 상승률은 2.4%로 1월의 2.2%보다 높아졌으며 20 08년 10월(3.7%) 이후 최고치를 기록했다.

    한국은 지난 1월에는 소비자물가 상승률이 4.1%로 에스토니아(5.2%), 그리스(5.2%), 터키(4.9%) 등에 이어 네 번째로 높았으나 2월에는 그리스와 터키도 앞질렀다.

   아울러 한국은 지난해 2월에는 소비자물가 상승률이 2.7%로 8위였으나 1년만에 6계단이나 올라서면서 가파른 상승세를 보였다.

    이밖에 한국의 2월 식품 물가는 지난해 같은 달보다 12.2%나 급등해 에스토니아 (13.2%)에 이어 2위를 차지했다. 1월에는 11.6%로 에스토니아(11.4%)보다 앞섰으나 2월에는 서로 순위를 바꿨다.

    OECD 회원국 가운데 2월 식품 물가가 두자릿수의 상승률을 보인 국가는 에스토 니아와 한국뿐이었으며 헝가리(8.3%), 핀란드(6.9%), 슬로바키아(6.6%) 등도 OECD 평균(3.0%)을 크게 웃돌았다.

    식품과 에너지를 제외한 근원물가는 한국이 2.5%로 터키(3.7%), 이스라엘(3.6%) , 영국(3.4%), 멕시코(3.3%), 뉴질랜드(3.0%) 등에 이어 6위를 기록했다.
