London marks countdown with launch of ticket sales

LONDON (AP) _ London is preparing to mark the 500-day countdown to the 2012 Olympics with the launch of ticket sales for the first home games since 1948.

With Tuesday marking exactly 500 days to go until the opening ceremony on July 27, 2012, organizers will open applications for the 6.6 million tickets on offer.

Demand is expected to be high for the tickets, which are being sold by a lottery system through a single official website run by the London organizing committee.

Customers have until April 26 to submit applications.

More than 2.5 million people have already registered interest in buying tickets.

On offer are tickets for 650 sessions across 26 sports. Prices range from 20 pounds ($32) to 2,012 pounds ($3,215).

The online process at www.tickets.london2012.com is available for residents of the U.K. and designated European countries. Elsewhere, the sales are handled through national Olympic committees.

2012런던올림픽조직위원회(LOCOG)는 대회 개막 500일을 앞둔 15일 입장권 가격을 확정해 발표했다.

총 660만 장의 티켓을 판매할 예정인 런던올림픽조직위는 내년 7월12일 런던 올림픽스타디움에서 열리는 개막식 입장권 값을 최저 20파운드(약 3만6천500원)에서 최고 2천12파운드(약 367만원)로 결정했다.

조직위는 전체 입장권 중 250만 장의 가격을 20파운드 미만으로 책정하고 16세

이하의 청소년과 60세 이상의 노인에 대해선 할인한 가격에 팔기로 했다.

조직위는 4월26일까지 온라인으로 1차 예약을 받은 뒤 추첨을 통해 9월9일부터 티켓을 판매할 계획이다.

영국과 유럽연합(EU) 회원국 국민은 런던올림픽조직위 홈페이지 (www.london2012.com)에서 예약할 수 있고, 나머지 나라는 해당국 올림픽위원회(NOC)에서 예약을 접수한다.

한편, 대한체육회(KOC)는 공식 후원사인 ㈜세방여행사를 통해 오는 31일까지 1차 예약을 받는다.
